AI Search Visibility Brand Tracking Tools for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini for Small Business
The brand tracking setup we use for a small business that needs to see ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini without an enterprise contract or a 400-prompt science project.
A small business that asks for AI search visibility brand tracking tools usually means three products: ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini. They still need Google maps, reviews, and a site that loads. They do not need an enterprise RFP or a 400-prompt catalog. We will not invent a booking lift or a shop name to prove the point. The playbook below is the one we run when the site is already doing ordinary SEO and wants an honest read on those three assistants.
The tracking layer is Promptwatch. The rest is still pages, GBP, and the Google tools you already have. We wrote a ChatGPT-and-Perplexity-only cut here. This post adds Gemini and stays on brand tracking.
What "tracked" means on a small account
Tracked is not sessions. Most answers send no click. We log, per prompt and per engine:
- Whether the brand appeared in the prose.
- Whether a URL was cited, and whether it was ours.
- Who got the citation when we lost.
- Whether the crawler had fetched the candidate page.
ChatGPT will name you without a link. Perplexity will footnote a directory. Gemini will answer from a mix of Search and its own retrieval. If you average those into one score, you hide the engine that is losing the lead.
Promptwatch paid plans watch ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Google AI Overviews from the real UIs, daily. Essential is $95/mo for 50 prompts on one project. That is the default for a single small business. Explore is free, ChatGPT only, 10 prompts. Use it to show a partner the workflow. Do not call Explore a three-engine program. It is not.
Professional is $245/mo when you need a second project or 150 prompts. Kick-off is $199/mo with unlimited projects and 10 seats if you are the shop running more than one brand. Business is $579/mo.
Country, state, and city sit on the prompt when you serve a place. "Best [category]" and "best [category] in [city]" are different answers. Visitor analytics (script or GTM) attach the rare click. Crawler logs tell you if GPTBot or the others never saw the service page.
Tools a small business already has (keep them)
Google Business Profile and Search Console. Categories, services, photos, posts. Generative reports for Overviews impressions. That is Google. It is not ChatGPT. The local SEO playbook is still the chair-filling work.
Ahrefs or Semrush if you already pay for one. Keep the rank tracker and the site audit. Brand Radar is modeled. The Semrush AI Toolkit is $99/mo per domain and also modeled. Pull them monthly. Do not use them as the weekly ChatGPT and Gemini mention report.
Otterly at $29 if a founder already bought it. ChatGPT and Perplexity are in the base set. Gemini is an add-on and lags 7 days. Leave it on the card if you want. Stop screenshotting it for the monthly PDF.
Peec at $95 is the fair one-brand comparison: three models, daily. Profound Starter at $99 annual is ChatGPT only, so it fails Gemini and Perplexity. Scrunch at $250 annual is weekly Excel. A small business does not need Sitecore.
How we pick the first 25 prompts
Not from a 500-keyword export. From the inbox and the sales calls:
- "Best [category] in [city]" if you are local.
- "Best [category] for [job to be done]."
- Your name plus "reviews" or "vs [the competitor you actually lose to]."
- The comparison the owner already answers on the phone.
Twenty-five is enough. Fifty covers a second location if you keep the wording parallel. We do not open 200 prompts on week one.
After a miss, the work is the same work we already sell: a standalone first sentence, a comparison table, entity names that match the sign on the door. How to get cited by ChatGPT is the checklist. A generated page that only swaps the city name is doorway junk. Google already said that. Models copy it anyway.
FAQ
Is $95 too much for a single-location shop?
Essential at $95 is 50 prompts and three-plus engines. Otterly at $29 is cheaper and incomplete once you need Gemini this week. Explore is free and ChatGPT only. Pick the SKU that matches the engines in the brief, not the lowest sticker.
Do we need Claude too?
Only if buyers in your category use it. This title named three engines. Paid Promptwatch includes Claude if you add those prompts later. We will not invent a Claude requirement to upsell Business.
Can we skip the tracker and paste into the three apps on Sundays?
You can. You will argue about wording, lose the history, and miss crawler blocks. Two owners will also remember different answers.
What to do this week
- Write 25 prompts from real customer language, including city variants if you serve a place.
- Confirm GBP is current. Open GSC generative reports.
- Load the list into Promptwatch Essential unless you only need a ChatGPT demo on Explore.
- Keep Ahrefs or Semrush if you have them. Stop treating Brand Radar or the Toolkit as the mention log.
- If you want us to run the first baseline, email hello@1001seomedia.com. Small-business brand tracking is a short list and a daily log, not a platform tour.
