AthenaHQ pricing in 2026: how we budget it on retainers

Essential free, Starter at $295, Enterprise custom. Credit math, single-country limits, and how we put AthenaHQ next to Promptwatch on a client budget.

AthenaHQ's pricing page is clearer than most enterprise GEO vendors, which helps on a client call. The hard part is translating credits into a monthly line item that finance will accept. When AthenaHQ lands in a procurement packet, we walk the client through the brief below.

The three published tiers

Essential is free. It includes $25 of free credit and 300 credits. Model coverage on Essential is ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. We treat it as a sandbox for a stakeholder who wants to click around before a paid pilot.

Starter is $295 a month. It lists 3,600 credits per month, with one credit equal to one AI response, and a "$300/month free credit" callout on the page. Starter covers eleven models: ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Mistral, with more available on request. Topics are unlimited. CSV export, integrations, on-page and off-page actions, and a content optimization agent are on Starter. API access and extra credits are paid add-ons billed on top. AthenaHQ does not publish those add-on prices; you contact them. Starter is single country.

Enterprise is custom. AthenaHQ positions it as best for enterprises and agencies. The Enterprise feature list includes a knowledge base and claim review, Oracle discrepancy detection, the Athena Citation Engine (ACE), SAML/OIDC SSO, an audit log, multi-region and multi-language support, persona targeting, the Athena Recommendation Engine, an executive dashboard with BI connectors (Tableau, Power BI, Looker), white-glove setup, API included, and custom credits.

Every plan includes unlimited seats with RBAC, GA4 and Search Console integration, Shopify and Webflow integration, smart robots.txt and llms.txt crawler-access management, and citation intelligence. AthenaHQ lists a 4.9/5 G2 score and a Spring 2026 High Performer badge in Answer Engine Optimization.

The arithmetic we put on the finance slide

3,600 credits equal 3,600 responses in a month. That sounds large until you multiply prompts by models by cadence.

Take 50 prompts across 11 models, checked daily for 30 days: 50 × 11 × 30 = 16,500 responses. Starter's pool covers roughly one fifth of that volume. Either you throttle the program (fewer prompts, fewer models, or less than daily checks), or you buy extra credits whose unit price is not on the public page.

We write that comparison into the proposal before anyone assumes $295 is the fully loaded cost. Add-on API and credit spend is a second unknown. Multi-country briefs push the account to Enterprise, which is a third unknown until sales replies.

How we fit this into a retainer

On retainers we care about three cost buckets: the monitoring tool, the people who clear actions, and the CMS publish path.

AthenaHQ Starter can fill the first bucket for a single-country brand if the prompt list stays inside 3,600 responses. The Action Center still needs someone to clear tasks. Content that leaves the optimization agent still needs review and publishing. If the client expects us to own that whole loop, AthenaHQ alone does not close the SOW.

For multi-market agency work, AthenaHQ's own positioning points at Enterprise. We do not quote Starter to a client with three country sites and then surprise them with an upgrade mid-quarter.

What we run for the operating stack

The platform we run client programs on is Promptwatch. Agency plans are flat: Kick-off at $199 a month, Growth at $399, Scale at $799. Each includes unlimited projects and prompts and ten seats. Brand plans are Explore free, Essential at $95 with a 7-day trial, Professional at $245, and Business at $579. Annual is twelve months for the price of ten.

That pricing model is easier to put next to AthenaHQ in a side-by-side. Promptwatch also covers the pieces we need after the mention check: Agent Analytics for crawler logs, citation analytics down to page and offsite sources, visitor analytics with conversions, and Content Agents that publish to Webflow or Framer through a review inbox.

What we tell procurement

Ask AthenaHQ three questions in writing: what a realistic monthly credit burn looks like for your prompt list and model set; what extra credits and API access cost at your volume; and whether every market in the brief fits Starter's single-country limit or requires Enterprise.

Then put Promptwatch Growth or Kick-off on the same slide as a flat alternative for the GEO retainer. Keep AthenaHQ in the conversation if the client already staffs an Action Center workflow and accepts metered responses. Do not treat the $295 Starter price as the agency number for multi-country work.

If you want us to build that side-by-side against your actual prompt inventory, email us. We will mark which line items are published prices and which still need a vendor quote.
