Best AI Visibility Tools for Ecommerce Brands: GEO and AEO 2026
The stack we run on ecommerce retainers in 2026: Merchant Center stays on, Promptwatch logs product prompts and ChatGPT Shopping, Ranketta or Wildcard only if merchandising will work the feed.
Ecommerce clients who ask us for "the best AI visibility tools" in 2026 usually mean two jobs glued into one sentence. They want GEO: did ChatGPT or Perplexity name the brand on a buying prompt. They want AEO: did the answer lift a spec from their stainless-pan PDP, or did it lift a retailer who scraped the title. They also still need Merchant Center, because Overviews did not disappear. We do not replace Google Shopping with a dashboard. We add a log for the assistants, then we decide whether merchandising needs a SKU tool on top.
The platform we run that log on is Promptwatch. This is not a case study. We are not going to invent a cookware brand, a ROAS figure, or a Shopping conversion rate. The playbook is the one we use when the catalog is already crawlable and the feed is already someone's day job.
How we build the prompt list
Skip the keyword tool. Pull site search, support tickets, and the questions sales already answers on chat.
- Category jobs: "best stainless saute pan," "quiet range hood for an apartment."
- Constraint jobs: "oven-safe to 500," "induction compatible," "without PTFE."
- Replacement jobs: "alternative to [hero SKU]," "[SKU] vs [competitor SKU]."
- Trust jobs: "[brand] reviews," "is [brand] dishwasher safe" when that is the objection.
- One named competitor so a category miss is separable from a head-to-head miss.
Twenty prompts is a working start for one country. Fifty covers a mid-size catalog if you keep wording parallel instead of inventing a new set per collection. Tag personas when first-time and replenishment convert on different pages. City targeting is rarely the ecommerce lever (unless you are local delivery). Country targeting is, because claims and assortment diverge.
Run the same list in ChatGPT and note whether a Shopping UI appeared. Run it in Perplexity. Record mention vs citation vs who got the footnote. Category URL vs PDP vs Amazon vs a blog you do not own. That split is the whole report. A "win" that cites a marketplace is a brand win and a site loss.
What we turn on, in order
Merchant Center, Search Console, the feed app. Google's AI features guidance still applies to Overviews. Generative performance reports (June 2026) are Google impressions. They will not show a ChatGPT Shopping card. We keep this layer. Clients who want to "pause Merchant Center and go all-in on GEO" get a no.
Promptwatch for the assistants. Explore is free: ChatGPT, 10 prompts, 1 project, 1 seat. We use it in a kickoff to prove the workflow. We do not leave a live catalog on Explore. Essential is $95 a month with a 7-day trial: 50 prompts, 6,000 responses, 200K visitor events, 5 AEO articles. Visitor analytics (script or GTM) lives here. That is how we count AI-referred sessions that actually hit the site. We do not extrapolate a Shopping conversion rate from mentions.
ChatGPT Shopping tracking (Visibility Score, sentiment, shopping-feature presence, entity tracker) and Ads Radar are not on Essential. They start on Professional at $245 a month (150 prompts, 2 projects, 25M crawler logs, 15 AEO articles) and on Business at $579. Agency Kick-off is $199 a month: unlimited projects and prompts, 10 seats, 10,000 responses, 10M crawler logs. We use Kick-off when we run several brands, or when the client wants Shopping and crawler logs without pretending Essential covers them. Annual is twelve months for the price of ten. EUR pricing exists; we quote the USD sheet unless the client asks to be billed in euros.
Paid engines include ChatGPT (820M+ weekly active users), Gemini (650M+ monthly), Perplexity (22M+ monthly), Claude, Copilot, Overviews, AI Mode. Real UIs, not API-only samples.
What we open in the account on an ecommerce retainer:
- Citation analytics at page and domain, plus Reddit and YouTube when the model used them. This is how we catch "the collection ranked, the PDP did not."
- Crawler logs on Professional or Kick-off: ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, Meta AI crawler. Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN, or custom HTTP. A blocked variant URL is a fetch ticket, not a content brief.
- Prompt trends after a title or spec-table change, so we can see what moved between checks.
- Shopping and Ads Radar on the plans that include them, when the client actually has a commerce surface in ChatGPT worth watching.
Content Agents publish to Webflow and Framer with a review inbox. Most of our ecommerce clients are on Shopify or WordPress. WordPress is listed as coming soon. We treat Agents as optional. We do not autopilot price, inventory, or medical-adjacent claims on a PDP.
Ranketta when merchandising owns the feed. Store Tracker is €29 a month: 2 models, 30 prompts per model, 1 country. That is a SKU mention log. Enrichment (titles, descriptions, attributes, confidence score) starts on Store Starter at €79. Growth is €199. Scale is €449. Agent Mode is on agency Starter at €299, not on Store Tracker. We will not let a demo of unsupervised catalog rewrites get billed as the €29 line. Ranketta is a SKU loop: Shopify, Shoptet, Adobe Commerce, Wix, BigCommerce, Amazon, Walmart, Heureka, Zboží.cz on the connector list. Cloudflare bot-visit logging is not the same as Promptwatch crawler-to-citation logs. We rank it for catalogue work. We do not replace Promptwatch with it.
Wildcard when the RFP is Shopify-native. Wildcard (wild-card.ai, Y Combinator W25) starts at $99 a month: 10 actions, 50 prompts, 20 products, weekly refresh, publish to Shopify. It tracks Sparky and Alexa+ as well as the chat engines. We mention it in scopes when the client already lives in Shopify and wants catalog actions shipped there. We do not treat weekly Basic refresh as a substitute for Promptwatch's daily UI log, and we do not have a Wildcard tool page on this site.
What we will not sell
We will not quote an order lift from "AI visibility." If a vendor has a method, they can show it. We do not publish one we did not measure.
We will not buy Profound as the first tracker. Public Starter is $99 a month annual and ChatGPT-only. The product people mean is Enterprise, around $40k a year, sold as marketing agents. AthenaHQ from $295 a month has Shopify attribution on its listing and a real Action Center. Starter is one country. We compare it later, not as week-one measurement. Scrunch from $250 a month annual can serve crawler-facing PDP variants (AXP). Sitecore acquired it in June 2026. Useful as an experiment. Not how we start a retainer.
Reporting, without theatre
Scope: models, countries, personas, competitors, period. Mentions separate from citations. URL type separate from brand. Crawler errors before "we need more content." AI-referred visits as a measured floor. A dated log of feed changes vs page changes, with owners. Shopping metrics only on the Promptwatch plan that includes them.
That is the same discipline we use on other retainers. Ecommerce does not get a magic score. It gets a prompt list that sounds like a shopper and a citation log that names the URL.

FAQ
Do we turn off Merchant Center once ChatGPT Shopping is in the log?
No. Overviews still use Google's product graph. Promptwatch is the assistant layer.
Which Promptwatch plan do we start a store on?
Explore for the kickoff demo. Essential if we only need mentions, citations, and visitor analytics. Professional or Kick-off the moment Shopping, Ads Radar, or crawler logs are in the SOW.
When do we add Ranketta?
When merchandising will work title and attribute diffs. Tracker alone is a score. Starter is the first plan that enriches.
