Citation Analytics for Pages, Reddit, YouTube, and Offsite Mentions in AI Answers
How we use Promptwatch citation analytics to see which pages, Reddit threads, YouTube videos, and offsite mentions actually appear in AI answers.
A mention without a URL is a different ticket from a citation. Most GEO arguments on accounts start because those two events got averaged. We keep them split in Promptwatch citation analytics: page, domain, Reddit, YouTube, news, and offsite mentions.
This is the measurement half of how to get cited by ChatGPT. The production checklist is that post. This one is the log.
Page and domain first
Page-level tracking tells us which of our URLs got used. Domain-level grouping tells us which publishers the model prefers on that prompt. We bookmark the money pages. We do not bookmark the whole sitemap.
Citation trends classify each citation into 22 content types and 20 source types, with rate by type, plus first cited, ramp-up days, peak, and decay per page. We use first-cited and decay when a "new" article stops appearing two weeks later. We do not turn those fields into a forecast for the board.
Citation search is how we find a specific source without scrolling. Competitor domains get highlighted in the citation list so a review site we already know does not look like a mystery.
Paid plans cover ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, AI Overviews, and AI Mode, from the real UIs, daily. Explore is ChatGPT only and 10 prompts. Essential is $95/mo. Professional is $245/mo. Business is $579/mo. Kick-off is $199/mo for agencies (unlimited projects and prompts, 10 seats). G2: 4.7/5.
Reddit, YouTube, news, offsite
Reddit and YouTube have their own reports: threads, users, subreddits; videos, frequency, models. News is a distinct citation type. We do not treat a Reddit citation as a reason to astroturf. If the thread is already the source, the honest options are participate as the brand or leave it alone.
Offsite mentions are the useful odd case: the brand is named inside a third-party page the model cited, even with no link back. Filterable by content type and source. That is digital PR measurement, not a new on-site brief. We will not write a twin of a page that already ranks in the citation list unless our own URL is broken.
Otterly at $29 (Gemini add-on, lag) will tell you a mention happened. Peec at $95 is cleaner on screenshots. Profound Starter at $99 annual is ChatGPT only. None of those replace page-level plus Reddit plus YouTube in one login. We still keep Ahrefs or Semrush for Google links.
What we put on the slide
Three URLs. Ours if we were cited. Theirs if we were not. Subreddit or video if that is the source. We do not invent a "citation share" the product did not compute. We do not claim a YouTube mention became sessions unless visitor analytics (script or GTM) shows the referral.
We also do not promise Promptwatch screenshots as the deliverable. The deliverable is the row and the ticket.
FAQ
Should we chase every Reddit citation?
No. We chase the threads that already sit on revenue prompts. A random mention in a subreddit the buyer never reads is a note, not a campaign.
Can we export this?
Yes. CSV exports cover grouped citations, Reddit, YouTube, and offsite mentions. Kick-off clients get that in the monthly pack. White-label is custom Promptwatch pricing, not a toggle we invent.
How we run it
- After the first quiet week, open citation analytics on the ten prompts that mention us without a link, or cite someone else.
- Split the misses: our page exists, our page is thin, or the model is reading a third-party URL.
- Bookmark the two on-site URLs we will edit. Log the off-site source if PR is in the SOW.
- Recheck the same prompts two weeks later. Watch decay on the page we changed.
- hello@1001seomedia.com if you want the citation log on the retainer. Bring the URLs you think get cited. We will check whether they do.
