Is there a tool to monitor my website's visibility in ChatGPT responses? What we use

Yes, tools exist to monitor your website's visibility in ChatGPT responses. Here is what we monitor for clients, and the Promptwatch features we use to do it.

Yes, there is. It is one of the most common questions we get from new clients, and the short answer is that you can monitor it properly, but "visibility in ChatGPT" is really three separate things. We monitor all three, and here is how.

The three things we watch

Mentions and citations. For a panel of buyer questions, is the site's brand or its pages named in ChatGPT's answers? In what position? Next to whom?

Access. Can ChatGPT's crawlers fetch the pages? Bots that matter include GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User. We have seen well-run sites block them by accident through robots.txt rules or CDN settings.

Outcomes. Do ChatGPT referrals produce visits and conversions? A page can be cited and send nobody, or send a trickle that converts well.

Most inexpensive tools cover the first item only. We prefer to see all three in one place.

How we monitor it in Promptwatch

We run client programs on Promptwatch, and each layer has a specific feature behind it.

For mentions and citations, monitors run a prompt panel daily on ChatGPT through the real Search interface and report Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer. Citation analytics shows which of the client's pages, and which third-party domains, ChatGPT cites. The Page Tracker lets us follow a specific URL, such as a pricing page or a key guide, and ChatGPT News citations are reported separately.

For access, Agent Analytics reads IP-verified AI crawler logs, so spoofed user agents are filtered out. It tracks GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User, shows the path from crawl to citation with a citation rate per page, and gives failure explanations when a request errors. Logs flow in through Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN, a custom HTTP source or the WordPress plugin. Crawler logs start on the Professional plan. Essential has none, so we scope clients accordingly.

For outcomes, visitor analytics counts AI-referred visits and conversions from ChatGPT and others through a script, a GTM template or the WordPress plugin.

360 Insights joins crawler logs, citation clicks and AI-referred visits per page, which is the view we open when a client asks "why is this page not getting traffic from ChatGPT?" Usually one of the three layers explains it.

Free ways to start

Before spending anything, you can look at the situation yourself. Promptwatch's Explore plan is free: 1 project, 10 prompts and 310 responses, ChatGPT only. There is also a no-login AI Visibility Report scan, and a GEO Inspector Chrome extension that shows ChatGPT's fan-outs and the difference between fetched and cited sources, running locally in the browser. We often use the extension in discovery calls to show a client what ChatGPT actually looked at.

What we advise on pricing

Brand plans: Essential $95/mo (50 prompts), Professional $245/mo (150 prompts, crawler logs) and Business $579/mo (350 prompts). A 7-day free trial is available on monthly billing for Essential and Professional. Agency plans are Kick-off $199/mo, Growth $399/mo and Scale $799/mo, with unlimited projects and prompts. For one website with a modest prompt set, Professional is where we usually land because of the crawler logs.

What the other options look like

Clients bring up Ahrefs Brand Radar, HubSpot AEO, Semrush's AI Toolkit and AthenaHQ. They are legitimate and some are cheap to add if you already pay for the parent product. In our experience they cover the first layer, mentions, better than the other two. Crawler logs and conversion tracking are where most of them stop.

Limits we state up front

No tool can control what ChatGPT says. Answers vary by run, by country and by model version, so we track panels and judge trends. A mention on one day is not a result. And a monitoring tool shows you the problem, but you or your agency still have to fix the pages, the access and the third-party presence behind it.

We also tell clients that "visibility in ChatGPT" does not equal "ranking". There is no stable list to rank on. What we report instead is share of the prompts where the brand is named, the position when it is named, and what follows in traffic.

What to do this week

Write twenty questions your customers would ask before buying. Track them for two weeks. For every one where you are absent, look at what ChatGPT cited. Check your crawler access. Then pick the three biggest fixes and start there. Promptwatch's free tier is enough to do the first part of that, and Professional ($245/mo) is the step up when you need the crawler and conversion layers.
