The local GEO tools we compared for city-level tracking, and what we chose
We read the docs and pricing of eight local AI visibility tools before choosing one for client city programs. What each does well, where it stopped short for agency work, and why we run on Promptwatch.
Clients with several locations keep asking whether we can show AI visibility per city. Before answering yes, we went through the local GEO tools we kept hearing about: their product pages, pricing pages, help centers and, where they publish one, their llms.txt. This is what we found and how we decided. Prices are as published in October 2026.
Our requirements were specific to agency work. We need to set the city ourselves, including cities where a client has no address. We need our own prompts, the same wording in every city. We need data often enough to see change. And when a city drops, we need to explain why, which means seeing what the answer cited, whether AI crawlers reached the page, and whether AI visitors converted.
Local Falcon
Local Falcon samples one prompt from every point on a grid around an address, from 9 points up to 441, on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews, AI Mode and Grok. It's the only tool we looked at that answers "which part of town." Pricing is in credits, one per grid point, from $24.99/mo for 7,500, with unlimited keywords and locations.
What stopped us: the grid needs an address at its centre, and the credit maths gets heavy for a client with many keywords. A 9x9 grid uses 81 credits per keyword per scan. We also didn't find crawler logs or conversion tracking in its materials. For a single-location client focused on neighbourhoods, it's a good tool.
BrightLocal Local AI Visibility
Included free on BrightLocal's Track, Manage and Grow plans, from $41/mo per location. Each location gets up to 20 prompts on ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews, scored against the local competitors AI names. Citation gaps can go into Citation Builder in the same account.
What stopped us: three engines, a hard 20-prompt cap, and BrightLocal's own help center says export and white-label aren't live yet. We can't put that in a client report outside BrightLocal.
Synup AEO
Per-location AI reports inside Synup's local suite, from $49/mo for one location. Synup writes 16 discovery prompts per location and refreshes monthly on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. White-label starts on Premium at $299/mo for up to 10 locations.
What stopped us: we couldn't find a way to use our own prompts in its materials, and monthly refreshes are too slow to connect a change to a cause.
Birdeye Search AI and Yext Scout
Both are strong if the client already runs listings on them. Birdeye covers seven engines per location and has agents that fix listings. Yext Scout benchmarks each location against up to 20 local competitors. Neither publishes a price, and both anchor to the locations they manage. We'll read the client's reports if they have them. We wouldn't buy either to run a program.
Uberall GEO Studio
Built with AthenaHQ, self-serve from $109/mo, with content publishing to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix and Framer after approval. Location-level tracking starts on GEO Scale at $449/mo. A credible option for a brand with many stores. Its materials don't cover AI crawler logs.
Reputation AI Location Presence Insights
A per-location check on whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity have the address, phone and hours right, free for Reputation listings customers and refreshed monthly. Useful as an accuracy audit. Not a tracking program.
Promptwatch
Promptwatch is what we chose and what we run client city programs on. Location sits on a monitor: country, optional state, optional city, language and persona. We build one monitor per city with an identical prompt set, and it runs daily across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot, AI Overviews, AI Mode and more. Any city, address or not.
The reason it won is the part after the score. In the same workspace we see which pages and domains each city answer cited (including Reddit and YouTube), whether AI crawlers fetched the client's city page and hit errors (Agent Analytics), and whether AI-referred visitors converted (visitor analytics). That chain is what turns a client's "why did we drop in Bristol?" into a task.
On pricing: city and state targeting are included on every agency plan, from Kick-off at $199/mo with unlimited projects and prompts and 10 seats, and on the Business brand plan at $579/mo. Essential ($95/mo) and Professional ($245/mo) are country-level only. Agency plans don't include the automated Content Agent, which is on Business and Enterprise, so for agency clients we write the city pages ourselves.
How we use the others alongside it
We don't ask clients to drop their listings tool. If they're on BrightLocal, Birdeye, Yext or Reputation, that's still where hours and citations get fixed, and we read the AI module they already pay for. For a flagship location where neighbourhood coverage matters, a Local Falcon grid can sit next to the Promptwatch city data.
But the program itself, the prompts, the cities, the reporting and the diagnosis, runs in one place. If you want that for your locations, send the list of cities that matter to hello@1001seomedia.com.
