Software to Track Brand Visibility in ChatGPT AI Search Recommendations for B2B Vendors

The software we use to track whether a B2B vendor shows up in ChatGPT recommendations on category, alternatives, and comparison prompts, and what we do when the log is red.

B2B vendors who ask for software to track brand visibility in ChatGPT AI search recommendations are usually losing a shortlist they never see. A buyer asks ChatGPT for the best [category] for [job], or for alternatives to the incumbent, and the model names three companies. Your sales team hears the other two on the next call. Rank trackers do not store that answer.

The software we use for the log is Promptwatch. The work after the log is still comparison pages, third-party mentions, and crawler access. We will not invent a pipeline lift or a named customer.

What a ChatGPT recommendation looks like for B2B

It is rarely "visit this URL." It is a shortlist with a one-line frame: "X is the [category] for [persona]." Sometimes there is a citation. Sometimes there is only a name. Sometimes the citation is a review site, a G2-style category page, or a "best tools" post you do not control.

So tracking has to separate:

  • Mention (you were named).
  • Citation (a URL was shown).
  • Self-citation (it was yours).
  • Competitor or publisher citation (someone else owns the claim).
  • Sentiment of the frame (only if the tool actually scores it; we do not invent a score in a spreadsheet).

Promptwatch citation analytics give page-level and domain-level breakdowns, including the third-party domains ChatGPT keeps using. Query fan-outs show the background searches. That is usually where we find the comparison URL the model is grounded on.

Essential is $95/mo for 50 prompts on one project. That is a working B2B vendor program: category, alternatives, "best X for Y," integration pairs, and branded. Explore is free, ChatGPT only, 10 prompts. Enough to prove the workflow to a founder. Not enough for a category with four buyer personas. Professional is $245/mo when you need a second project (a second product line) or 150 prompts. Agency Kick-off is $199/mo with unlimited projects and 10 seats if marketing, product, and an agency all need logins.

How we build the recommendation list

Do not start from a keyword tool. Start from the questions sales already loses:

  • Best [category] for [industry or company size].
  • Alternatives to [the incumbent you replace] and alternatives to you.
  • [You] vs [the name that comes up every demo].
  • [You] for [integration or stack].
  • Pricing and "is [you] worth it" only if you will keep a public page that is true.

Twenty-five prompts is a start. Fifty is a real portfolio if you keep personas tagged instead of writing a new essay for each. Promptwatch topics, tags, and personas exist so the weekly review can say "we lost mid-market alternatives" instead of "the dashboard is red."

Run the list once by hand in ChatGPT before you trust the tool. Save the shortlists. Then load the same wording. If week one disagrees, fix aliases (old product name, parent company, acronym) before you rewrite the homepage.

Paid Promptwatch plans also watch other engines and Google AI Overviews. This post is about ChatGPT recommendations, so we still keep one list and read the ChatGPT column first. GSC generative reports are Overviews, not ChatGPT. Keep them. Do not substitute them.

What the software should show besides the shortlist

Crawler logs. If GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot cannot fetch the comparison page or the docs URL, every later edit looks like a GEO failure. OpenAI's bot documentation is the reference. Bot-protection presets block these often.

Visitor analytics. A small script or GTM template. Most ChatGPT answers send no click. When a session does arrive, you want it next to the mention report so the CRO person does not call the channel fake.

Content Agents and a review inbox. Useful for a first draft of an alternatives page in Webflow or Framer. Someone who will take the sales call still has to check claims. We do not publish invented differentiators.

City tracking matters less for a global SaaS than for a vendor with regional partners. Turn it on when the prompt includes a country.

ChatGPT Shopping and Ads Radar matter when the vendor is sold in those modules. Most B2B recommendation prompts are not shopping queries.

What we do when you are missing from the shortlist

Three common misses:

  1. No quotable page. The homepage is a mood. The alternatives page does not exist. The comparison table is a PDF behind a form. Models lift passages. Put a standalone sentence under the H1. Put the comparison in a table that is true this month.
  2. You lost the third-party URL. Fan-outs point at a roundup or a community thread. Earn an honest mention there. Astroturfing is worse than absence.
  3. You were crawled and ignored. Then the passage is weak or the entity name does not match how buyers type you. That is an edit, not a new subdomain.

We re-check the same prompts in two weeks. We do not ship twenty "ultimate guides" because twenty recommendations went to someone else. See how we get cited for the editorial order.

Classic SEO stays. Buyers still Google you after the ChatGPT shortlist. SEO vs GEO is the split we use on these accounts.

FAQ

Can we paste prompts into ChatGPT once a quarter?

You can. You will miss the week a competitor published the alternatives page ChatGPT now copies.

Is Explore enough for a seed-stage vendor?

If you have 10 prompts and only care about ChatGPT, yes, to learn. The day you want history and citation domains, Essential is the floor we run.

Will tracking recommendations create pipeline?

We will not promise that. Tracking tells you whether you were named. Pipeline is still sales and whether the cited page is yours.

What to do this week

  1. Collect 25 prompts from lost-deal notes, not from a keyword export.
  2. Run them once in ChatGPT. Save the shortlists.
  3. Create a Promptwatch project on Essential ($95) unless you only need a 10-prompt demo (Explore).
  4. Confirm GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot can fetch the pages you think should win.
  5. If you want us on the weekly shortlist review, email hello@1001seomedia.com with the 25 prompts and the two competitors you hear on calls. The software is the log. We do the comparison-page and mention work.
