We're leaving Otterly: which platform has more accurate data and an easier switch?

Leaving Otterly.AI? Here is how we test data accuracy and run a clean switch between AI visibility platforms for clients, including the parallel-run method.

Teams switch away from Otterly.AI for different reasons, and the reason decides the replacement. In the vendors' public information we have reviewed, the common ones are data that can lag on some plans, engine add-ons for Gemini, Claude and AI Mode, a small Lite allowance, and no traffic attribution or guidance on what to change. Otterly does some things well: setup is quick, there is a no-card trial, and the pricing is easy to understand. If a client only needed a simple dashboard, it delivered one.

The first thing we do is ask why. "The numbers feel old" and "we need to see conversions" lead to different shortlists.

Accuracy: we test it, we do not take claims on trust

No platform can prove its data is more accurate from a pricing page. Neither can we. What we can do is a short test that any team can repeat.

  1. Choose 15 to 20 prompts the client already tracks.
  2. Run each by hand in the real product, in a clean session, and note who is mentioned and which sources are cited.
  3. Compare with what each candidate platform recorded for the same prompts.
  4. Look for the pattern across prompts. Assistants vary between askings, so one mismatch means little.

We also check four properties during any trial:

  • Real interface or API sample. We prefer monitoring the live product, because it matches what buyers see.
  • Refresh rate. Daily is much more useful than weekly if the client acts on changes.
  • Location and language control.
  • Visible responses and sources, so we can verify a number by reading the answer behind it.

What we run clients on

We use Promptwatch for client programs. For this switch specifically, the points that matter are:

  • It monitors the live interfaces of ChatGPT (Search), Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI, plus other models via API.
  • Every paid plan includes all active models, so a client does not hit engine add-on pricing.
  • Prompt panels run daily per model, country and language.
  • Responses are viewable, with citation analytics at page and domain level, so the accuracy test is straightforward.

Beyond monitoring, the pieces that a tracker alone lacks: IP-verified AI crawler logs in Agent Analytics (from the Professional plan, $245 a month), visitor analytics that connect AI visits to conversions, content gap analysis, and the Action Board. For many clients leaving a tracker, that is the actual reason they were unhappy: they could see mentions but had no route to action.

The switch itself

No platform in our catalog documents importing another tool's historical data, so we plan for a clean start and tell clients that up front. Here is the sequence we follow.

  1. Export what the old plan allows, including the prompt list and any reports needed for the record. If the old tool lacks a PDF export, we capture what stakeholders need by hand.
  2. Rebuild the prompt set, and improve it. Prompt Explorer suggests prompts from Search Console, ranking keywords, People Also Ask or a page. Topics, tags and prompt types give structure the old list may not have. The API and the hosted MCP server include write tools, so a long list can be loaded programmatically.
  3. Carry over naming rules. Brand aliases and the Brand Book set what counts as a mention, which keeps early comparisons fair.
  4. Run both tools in parallel for two to four weeks. This is the accuracy test, and it is a bridge for reporting.
  5. Re-baseline. We agree with stakeholders that trend lines restart on the switch date, and say so in the first report.
  6. Cancel the old tool once the new numbers are stable and the team trusts them.

Promptwatch offers a free Explore plan (10 prompts, ChatGPT only) for a first look, and a 7-day free trial on monthly billing for Essential ($95) and Professional ($245). We make sure clients take the trial on a monthly plan, since annual billing does not include it.

What else we compare

For clients who want to see more than one option, we look at AthenaHQ for its action queue (Starter is $295 a month and credit-based), Scrunch AI for bot traffic reporting (Core is $250 a month, with weekly refresh noted in our catalog), and LLM Pulse for clear euro pricing with a daily option. Profound is an enterprise marketing-agent platform with contracts starting around $40,000 a year per our entry, which rarely suits a team leaving a tracker priced in the tens or hundreds of dollars.

Be honest with stakeholders

Two things to say before the switch. First, history does not carry over, so the new baseline is a fresh start. Second, a more capable platform does not guarantee a recommendation by an assistant. It tells you more, faster, about why you are or are not named.

A short checklist

  • Write down why you are leaving.
  • Pull 15 to 20 prompts for a manual accuracy test.
  • Export prompts and reports from the old tool.
  • Run old and new in parallel for a few weeks.
  • Announce the re-baseline date.
  • Cancel only after the numbers hold up.
