AI Search Visibility Monitoring Tools for Business: ChatGPT Mentions in Profound, Otterly, and Peec AI

A buyer's memo for business teams comparing ChatGPT mention monitoring in Profound, Otterly, and Peec AI, with the spot-check we run before any contract and where Promptwatch fits.

When a marketing director asks us to help choose a ChatGPT monitoring tool, the request usually arrives with three names already attached: Profound, Otterly, and Peec AI. Someone saw a webinar, someone read a comparison, someone's peer uses one. Our job is to turn that into a decision the finance team can sign off and the marketing team will still be glad about in month six.

This is the memo we write in that situation. It covers what ChatGPT mention monitoring actually buys, the questions we put to each vendor, the spot-check we run before any contract, and our recommendation. Vendor facts for everyone except Promptwatch come from the tool catalog we maintain for our review work.

What "ChatGPT mention monitoring" buys you

Every tool in this category does the same core thing. It runs a set of prompts you choose in ChatGPT on a schedule, records whether your brand was named, where, next to which competitors, and usually which sources were cited. ChatGPT has 820M+ weekly active users, so knowing what it says about your category is a reasonable thing to pay for.

What it does not buy, on its own, is an explanation. A mention tracker tells you that you dropped out of an answer. It does not tell you whether ChatGPT's crawler can still reach your pricing page, whether the visitors ChatGPT does send convert, or what to publish next. Keep that in mind when comparing prices, because the cheapest tracker can turn into the most expensive setup once you add the tools needed to act on what it shows.

Five questions we put to every vendor

  1. Can I trust the numbers? What happens when I check a prompt by hand and the tool disagrees?
  2. How fresh is the data? Daily, weekly, or "up to seven days"?
  3. Is ChatGPT covered on the plan I would buy, and what does each additional engine cost?
  4. What does the contract look like: monthly or annual, seats, SSO, security reviews?
  5. When I lose a mention, what does the tool give me to fix it?

The answers, from the catalog, follow. We ranked the tools in the order we would recommend them to a business buyer, and we brought in two that are not on the original shortlist because a buyer should see them.

1. Promptwatch

Trust: Promptwatch monitors the real ChatGPT interface rather than relying only on API calls, so what it records is the product your buyers actually use. It is rated 4.7/5 on G2 and used by 1,840+ brands and agencies.

Coverage and contract: the free Explore plan covers ChatGPT with 10 prompts. Essential is $95 a month with a 7-day trial for 50 prompts and 6,000 responses. Professional at $245 holds 150 prompts across 2 projects and adds crawler logs. Business at $579 holds 350 prompts across 5 projects with 5 seats. Monthly billing is standard, annual gets twelve months for the price of ten, and Enterprise adds SSO, white-label, and dedicated support.

After a lost mention: this is the deciding answer. Citation analytics show which pages and domains ChatGPT cited instead of you. Agent Analytics crawler logs on Professional and up show whether ChatGPTBot still fetches your page. Visitor analytics connects AI-referred visits to conversions, so a mention trend can be read next to pipeline. Content Agents can draft and publish the missing page after review.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ's Starter plan is $295 a month ($245 annual), covers nine engines in one country, includes API access, and has unlimited seats. Its Action Center turns findings into assignable tasks, and our catalog rates that workflow as best in class. For a finance team the concern is usage-based billing: each AI response uses a credit, and G2 reviewers report burning a month of credits in the first week. Multi-region and personas are on Enterprise, reported at around $2,000 a month or more.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch starts at $250 a month on annual billing with 3 seats, and offers SSO, SOC 2, and a data API on Enterprise. Its Agent Experience Platform serves optimized page versions to AI crawlers. For mention monitoring, the catalog lists weekly data refresh and weak reporting as the top G2 complaint. Sitecore acquired it in June 2026, which a procurement team will want to factor into a multi-year commitment.

4. Profound

Trust: G2 reviewers report citation counts that do not match manual ChatGPT checks, and the catalog calls its sampling directional. Profound is rated 4.6/5 on G2 and has deep engine coverage on Enterprise.

Coverage and contract: Starter is $99 a month on annual billing, ChatGPT only, 50 prompts, one seat. Growth is $399 a month annual for three engines, 100 prompts, and 3 seats. Public tiers are annual only. SSO, SOC 2, API, and up to ten engines are on Enterprise, with contracts starting around $40k a year, and the catalog notes setup takes one to three months with a dedicated owner.

After a lost mention: Profound is now sold as marketing agents for AEO, content, demand, and PR. That is a broader program than mention monitoring, and it is priced like one. The listing does not document crawler logs or visitor analytics.

5. Otterly.AI

Trust: sentiment classification has been reported marking neutral mentions as positive. Freshness: monitoring data can be up to seven days stale.

Coverage and contract: ChatGPT is one of four base engines. Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard $189 for 100, Premium $489 for 400. Gemini, Claude, and AI Mode are add-ons. There is a genuine no-card trial and unlimited seats. There is no PDF export.

After a lost mention: Otterly includes a GEO audit grading pages on 25+ factors, but the listing has no traffic or revenue attribution and no crawler logs.

6. Peec AI

Trust: Peec is rated 4.9 on G2 with daily data and a clear methodology. Freshness is a strength.

Coverage and contract: Starter is $95 a month for 50 prompts, 3 models, and 1 project, with unlimited seats. Every tier includes three models; each extra costs $35 to $165 a month, and the catalog puts typical real bills 30 to 50 percent above list once coverage is configured. There is no historical backfill.

After a lost mention: Peec is deliberately monitoring only. It shows where you appear, not what to change, and it has no revenue attribution.

The spot-check we run before any contract

Whatever the shortlist, we do this before a client signs. Take ten prompts from the client's real buyer questions. Load them into each trial. On the same day, run all ten by hand in ChatGPT from a clean session in the client's main market, and write down who was named and which sources were cited. Compare that with what each tool recorded for the same day.

No tool will match perfectly, because answers vary between runs. What we look for is whether the disagreements are random or systematic. A tool that consistently misses the client, or counts mentions that are not there, fails regardless of price.

Our recommendation

For a business that wants to know what ChatGPT says about it and then do something about it, we recommend starting with Promptwatch, usually on Essential for the first month and Professional once the crawler logs and a second market are needed. The reason is not the mention count, which every tool here provides. It is that the citation sources, crawler fetches, and AI-referred conversions sit in the same account, so a lost mention leads straight to a cause and a fix. AthenaHQ and Scrunch are reasonable second looks for specific needs. Profound makes sense if you are buying a full enterprise marketing-agent program. Otterly and Peec are fine first trackers for teams that only need the count.
