AI visibility monitoring for recruitment agencies
How we set up AI visibility monitoring for recruitment agencies: separate employer and candidate prompts, location control, source checks and attribution.
Recruitment is a referral business, and AI assistants have started to act like referrers. An employer asks which agency to use for a hard-to-fill role. A candidate asks who recruits in their field. The assistant names a few firms. Monitoring AI visibility for a recruitment agency means finding out whether you are one of them.
Here is how we approach it for staffing and recruitment clients.
Start with two prompt sets
Recruitment agencies serve two audiences, and one combined panel blurs both. We build them separately.
Employer prompts. These drive client acquisition. "Best recruitment agency for [sector] in [city]." "Recruiters for [role type] contract hiring." "[Agency] vs [agency] for executive search." "How do recruitment agency fees work."
Candidate prompts. These feed the talent pipeline and employer brand. "Best recruiters for [profession] roles." "Is [agency] good to work with." "Where do I find [sector] jobs in [region]."
Each prompt gets tags for sector, specialism and location. Specialist agencies often win niche prompts and lose broad ones, and the split is useful for deciding where to invest.
Why location and sector matter more than usual
Recruitment queries almost always name a place and a sector. An agency with offices in several cities has several local contests, and the same firm can be named in one city and invisible in the next.
We use Promptwatch for client work partly for this reason. Country-level tracking is on every paid plan. State and city tracking begins on Business and is included on every agency plan. Business, Agency Scale and Enterprise also offer local GEO and SEO targeting, which pins a monitor to exact coordinates so ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answer as if asked from that spot. Other models fall back to country, state or city.
Personas help too. We write the same prompt as a hiring manager and as a candidate, and persona stacking combines attributes, so results do not blur.
What we look at beyond the mention
Sources. Citation analytics show which pages and domains the engines cited. For recruiters, the answer is often a job board, a review site or a directory. Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn citation reports show where discussion sits. That tells us where to build presence, which may not be the agency's own site.
Crawl access. Agent Analytics provides IP-verified crawler logs for bots such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot and ClaudeBot. Job listings and sector pages sometimes sit behind scripts or blocked paths. If bots cannot read them, nothing else we do helps. Crawler logs start on Professional, not Essential.
Outcome. Visitor analytics connects AI-referred sessions to conversions. For an agency that means vacancy submissions, candidate registrations or contact requests. The setup uses a script, GTM template or WordPress plugin.
What we do with it
- Fix crawl issues first, since they are the cheapest.
- Rewrite sector and service pages so they answer employer questions directly: fees, process, specialisms, locations.
- Align information across the site, directories and profiles.
- Use Content Refresh suggestions for pages that nearly earn citations, always with human review.
- For gaps, plan new content from a brief. The Content Agent, on Business and Enterprise, can plan, write and publish on a schedule with a review inbox.
- Work the Action Board for the prioritized list.
If you are an agency serving recruiters
Marketing agencies that run AI visibility for recruitment clients have a separate need: managing many accounts. Promptwatch agency plans include unlimited projects, unlimited pitch projects, 10 seats, all AI models, Agent Chat and MCP plus API. Plans are Kick-off $199, Growth $399 and Scale $799 a month. Pitch projects are useful for showing a prospective recruiter client their baseline before they sign. Agency plans do not include the Content Agent or AEO articles, so scope content work accordingly.
Other tools
AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Profound, Ceyo, Finseo, Otterly.AI and Peec AI come up in client conversations. AthenaHQ has strong action workflows with credit-based usage, Scrunch AI adds audits, Profound targets large enterprises, and Ceyo and Finseo emphasize multi-country capture. Simple monitors like Otterly.AI and Peec AI can work for very small firms. We keep to Promptwatch for the combination of location control, citations, crawler logs and traffic data.
Limits
No monitoring can guarantee that an assistant recommends your agency. Answers vary between runs, and a single snapshot is weak evidence. We treat the data as direction and report it that way.
A free Explore tier (10 prompts, ChatGPT only) is enough for a first look. Essential is $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579.
