AI Visibility Monitoring Tools for Recruitment Agencies
How we measure ChatGPT and Perplexity visibility for recruitment firms without dropping LinkedIn or inventing a placement lift. Promptwatch is the platform we run.
Recruitment agencies that ask us for AI visibility monitoring tools usually have two problems in one sentence. Their BD team still lives in LinkedIn Recruiter. Their candidates still arrive through job boards and Google. Those same hiring managers now ask ChatGPT or Perplexity which firm to call, and the shortlist may not include the client. We do not treat those as separate hobbies. LinkedIn is still the pipeline. AI search visibility is the extra log.
This is not a case study. We are not going to invent a staffing brand, a city, or a retained-search lift. The playbook below is the one we run when a recruitment site is already doing the unglamorous work (specialty pages, crawlable careers URLs, reviews) and wants an honest read on ChatGPT and Perplexity.
The measurement layer is Promptwatch. The page work is still specialty content, technical access, and whatever offsite sources the models already cite.
What a recruitment prompt list actually looks like
Skip keyword-tool fantasy. Pull the questions BD and the consultants already answer on the phone.
- Best recruitment agency in [city] for a specific desk (software, nursing, warehouse, legal, finance).
- Retained vs contingency, contract vs permanent, executive search vs high-volume.
- Branded: the firm name plus "reviews," "fees," "legit."
- One named competitor, so you can tell a category miss from a head-to-head miss.
- Candidate wording as well as client wording. They are different commercial events. Tag them as different personas.
Run the same list in ChatGPT and Perplexity. Record mention vs citation vs who got the footnote. City targeting exists for a reason: "best IT recruiter" without a city and "best IT recruiter in [city]" are different answers. If you track only the generic string, you will congratulate yourself on a mention that never appears for the metro you sell.
Twenty prompts is a working start. Fifty covers a multi-desk group if you keep the wording parallel across cities instead of inventing a new set each time.
The tools, in the order we turn them on
LinkedIn, the ATS, and Search Console. Recruiter seats, job posts, inbound applications. Generative AI performance reports for Overviews impressions. That is Google. It is not ChatGPT.
Promptwatch for the assistants. Explore is free, ChatGPT only, 10 prompts. Use it to show a partner the workflow. Do not use it as the production log for Perplexity. Essential is $95 a month for 50 prompts on one project, 6,000 responses, 200K visitor events, 5 AEO articles, 7-day trial. Professional is $245 with 150 prompts, 2 projects, 25M crawler logs, 15 AEO articles. That is the first brand plan we use when a firm has two trading names or needs crawler logs next to the prompt list. Kick-off is $199 a month for agencies: unlimited projects and prompts, 10 seats, 10,000 responses, 10M crawler logs. We use Kick-off when we are running several desks as separate projects, or when the firm also wants client-ready reporting across brands.
Paid plans cover ChatGPT (820M+ weekly active users), Perplexity (22M+ monthly), Gemini (650M+ monthly), Claude, Copilot, and Google's AI surfaces from the real UIs.
What we actually open in the account:
- Citation analytics: which specialty page got used, and which review site, listicle, or competitor won instead. Reddit and YouTube show up here when the model lifted them.
- Crawler logs on Professional or an agency plan: whether ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and the Meta AI crawler could fetch the desk URLs. Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN, or custom HTTP.
- Visitor analytics (script or GTM) if any AI-referred sessions show up. Most answers still send no click. Mentions still matter in a pitch.
- Personas and city targeting so client-side and candidate-side prompts stay on the same report without blending.
Content Agents when the gap is a missing page. They plan, write and publish to Webflow or Framer with a review inbox. Employer-brand and legal read the draft before it ships. We do not autopilot salary claims. WordPress is listed as coming soon, so a WordPress careers site still gets a human publish step.
What we will not sell
We will not quote a candidate-count lift from "AI visibility." Ask any vendor for their measurement method if they do. We do not publish one we did not measure.
We will not replace LinkedIn Recruiter with a GEO dashboard. We will not buy Profound as a first tracker. It is sold as generic marketing agents, with the real product at Enterprise around $40k a year. AthenaHQ's Action Center is real, from $295 a month, but Starter is one country and the features staffing groups actually want (personas, multi-region) sit on Enterprise around $2,000 a month. Fine as a later comparison. Not how we start.
Reporting, without theatre
Scope first: models, cities, personas, competitors, period. Mentions separate from citations. Crawler errors before content claims. AI-referred visits as a measured floor, not a hidden-influence estimate. A dated log of pages shipped. Owners on the next actions.
That is the same reporting discipline we use on other retainers. Recruitment does not get a special score. It gets a prompt list that sounds like a hiring manager and a candidate.

FAQ
Do we need a recruitment-specific AI SEO tool?
No. The category is brand visibility in generated answers. Staffing is a prompt list, two personas, and a city filter.
Can we just check ChatGPT once a month by hand?
You can. You will miss Perplexity, you will not keep a comparable log, and the next BD meeting will run on anecdotes. Explore is free if the objection is price.
Does ranking for "recruitment agency [city]" on Google mean ChatGPT will recommend us?
No. Different retrieval. A strong Google page helps Google. ChatGPT may cite a national list or a competitor desk page instead.
