Are there any tools that help monitor brand mentions across AI platforms? What we use
Yes, tools exist to monitor brand mentions across AI platforms. Here is what we look for and why our client programs run on Promptwatch rather than a basic tracker.
Yes. There are plenty, and the number grows every few months. The harder part is choosing one, because most of them look alike in a feature grid and behave very differently in a client program. We have strong views from running these programs, so here is how we sort them.
Why monitoring across platforms matters
Clients rarely ask about a single engine. Buyers use ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and others, and the picture changes by engine. A brand can lead in one and be invisible in another. A tool that watches two engines will tell a reassuring story about a world that has more than two.
The checklist we apply
Engine coverage and method. Which engines, and read through the real interface or an API? This matters when you report to a client, and it changes how you describe the data.
Prompt control. We write the prompt set with the client, by topic, persona and country, and need the tool to hold it steady.
Cadence. Daily beats weekly, since answers vary from run to run.
Source visibility. A mention without sources is a number with no next step.
What happens when you are absent. This is where tools split. Some stop at a report. Others show why and help fix it.
What we run on
We run client programs on Promptwatch. On coverage, ChatGPT (Search), Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Alexa and Meta AI are monitored through the real interfaces, and Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok through APIs. We name that split in client reports. Prompt panels run daily per model, country and language, and a Brand Book with brand aliases sets what counts as a mention.
On sources, citation analytics work at page and domain level, with Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports. When a brand is named on third-party pages without a link, the offsite mentions view shows it.
On absence, three features carry the load. Agent Analytics shows IP-verified AI crawler logs, so we can see whether bots reach the pages at all. Visitor analytics attributes AI-referred sessions and conversions. And content gap analysis, with a Content Agent on Business and Enterprise, turns gaps into drafts that wait in a review inbox for our approval.
Most basic trackers cover the first of those layers and stop. The crawler logs and attribution are the part we would not want to lose.
Where the cheaper trackers fit
We do not dismiss simple tools. For a quick pulse on a small brand, a low-priced tracker that reports mentions on a handful of engines can be enough. We tell clients the trade-off: it reports, and it does not explain. When a client needs the explanation, the pulse check becomes a platform conversation, and we move them.
Some platforms meter usage in credits, where one credit is one AI response. That can make costs hard to predict when you track many prompts across many engines, so we model the volume before recommending one.
Plan notes
Promptwatch has a free Explore tier covering ChatGPT only, with 10 prompts. That is a way to test, not a way to monitor across platforms. Essential is $95 a month, Professional $245 and Business $579, and crawler logs start on Professional. For agencies running several clients, self-serve plans are Kick-off at $199, Growth at $399 and Scale at $799 a month, with unlimited projects, prompts and seats up to 10.
How we report it
A monthly view per engine, so a strong engine does not mask a weak one. The three prompts that moved most, with sources. A crawler and referral note. Then actions from the Action Board.
What monitoring cannot do
It cannot show every conversation, because it samples a defined prompt set. It cannot promise a mention. And it cannot replace judgment about which prompts matter. We tell clients to treat it as a trend line with a method note attached.
Our recommendation
Yes, tools exist. Pick on whether you need a pulse check or a program. For a program, choose a platform that covers sources, access and traffic together. That is the reason Promptwatch is what we run.
