A GEO tool that's useful for enhancing your AI SEO strategy: our recommendation

Our recommendation for a GEO tool that strengthens an AI SEO strategy, with the reasons we run client programs on it and how to put it to work.

If someone asks us which GEO tool to use to improve an AI SEO strategy, we ask one question back: what is your strategy missing? Tools are good at one or two jobs each. The right pick depends on whether you lack visibility data, crawl evidence, or the ability to ship fixes. After running several client programs, we have a default recommendation, and we will explain when we would not use it.

The three gaps we see

You cannot see your standing. Teams often have strong organic rankings and no idea whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI features name them. The fix is a tracked prompt set across engines, ideally by country and persona.

You cannot see access. A page can rank well and still be invisible to AI bots because of a firewall rule, a robots.txt line or a CDN setting. Search Console will not tell you about that. Crawler logs will.

You cannot ship. Dashboards produce findings, and findings go stale if there is no list, no owner and no fast way to refresh or write pages.

What we recommend and why

We run client programs on Promptwatch, and our default recommendation is to evaluate it first. It addresses all three gaps. Visibility: prompt panels run daily per model, country and language, with Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer, plus Prompt Explorer, personas and query fan-outs per model. Access: Agent Analytics provides IP-verified AI crawler logs with a crawl-to-citation path and error tracking per page. Shipping: the Action Board holds a prioritized list that a weekly Discovery agent refreshes, Content Refresh proposes diff-style page updates, and on Business plans the Content Agent plans, writes and publishes against gaps.

The part that clients like less at first but depend on later is attribution. Visitor analytics shows AI-referred traffic and conversions, so when finance asks whether the work pays off, we have an answer that is not a screenshot.

It also fits around existing SEO work. Search Insights overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data on AI crawls and citations. A Looker Studio connector helps with client reporting. A hosted MCP server and API let our team query the data from tools like Cursor and Claude.

When we would pick something else

We try to be honest about fit. A team already deep in Semrush or Ahrefs that only wants a rough AI signal next to its keyword data can start with those suites' AI add-ons, knowing they are directional and do not include crawler logs. A very small team with a tight budget may accept weekly data from a cheaper tracker. A large enterprise that wants a managed agent program may prefer an enterprise vendor. In each case, the question is whether the tool covers the gap you actually have.

Plan guidance

Essential ($95 a month) covers tracking, citations and content gap analysis, but not crawler logs. If access is your suspected gap, start at Professional ($245), where crawler logs begin. Business ($579) adds the Content Agent, state and city tracking, local GEO and SEO targeting and Ads Radar. Agencies can use the self-serve plans (Kick-off $199, Growth $399, Scale $799), which include crawler logs and unlimited projects but not AEO articles or the Content Agent. A free Explore plan covers 10 prompts on ChatGPT only, which is enough to see what the data looks like.

Using it well

A tool does not improve a strategy on its own. This is the order we follow:

  1. Build a prompt set from real buyer questions, forty at most to begin.
  2. Pick the three most valuable prompts where competitors are named and the client is not.
  3. Check the cited sources and crawler logs for the pages involved.
  4. Fix access, then content, then third-party gaps.
  5. Review monthly with a fixed prompt set so the trend means something.

What we tell everyone

No GEO tool guarantees a recommendation. Engines vary from run to run and change over time. What a good tool does is shorten the path between "we are missing" and "we know why". If a vendor promises more than that, move on.
