How can I track my company's mentions across different AI models in real-time? Comprehensive analytics and content gap analysis

How we track company mentions across AI models close to real time, with the analytics and content gap analysis clients ask for, and where real time has limits.

A client recently asked for real-time mention tracking across AI models, comprehensive analytics and content gap analysis, ideally in one tool. It is a reasonable wish. Here is what we can and cannot deliver, and how we set it up in Promptwatch.

First, what real time can mean

AI answers are generated for each question and vary between runs. Nobody can observe every answer every user sees. What a tool can do is run your chosen prompts repeatedly and report what comes back. Promptwatch runs monitors daily per model, country and language and also supports real-time prompt tracking, which we use to check a prompt on demand, for example after publishing a page. We tell clients that this is sampling of a defined panel, not a live feed of all mentions. Saying so early prevents disappointment later.

The model split

Promptwatch monitors ChatGPT (Search), Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI through real interfaces. Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok are tracked via API. A heatmap compares any two dimensions, such as brands against models, which is how we spot the engine where a client trails.

Analytics that explain the mentions

Counting mentions is the start. We report Visibility Score, Share of Voice against competitors, Sentiment with a weekly summary, and Position in Answer. Then we explain them:

  • Citation analytics shows which pages and domains each model used, including Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports.
  • Agent Analytics shows whether AI bots can read the site, with IP-verified logs.
  • Visitor analytics shows what AI-referred visitors do, with conversions.

Crawler logs begin on Professional at $245 a month, so we mention it when a client starts on Essential.

Content gap analysis in practice

This is where clients get the most direct value. Content gap analysis compares the prompts that matter with the content that answers them, and gives coverage scores by topic. The Answer Gap Report is what Monks, per Promptwatch's own case study, uses for client content roadmaps. We take that as their usage and not as a promise for ours.

Our workflow runs in three steps. We pull the gaps for the top prompts. We check the fan-outs, because the sub-queries an engine runs show what content it went looking for. Then we write a brief. Content tools in Promptwatch draft from a brief and publish to WordPress, Webflow or Framer, and Content Refresh suggests diff-style updates for pages that exist but underperform. We review everything before it goes live.

The automated Content Agent starts on Business at $579 a month, and agency plans do not include it. Agency plans do include content gap analysis, custom reports, the Looker Studio connector, Agent Chat, and unlimited projects and prompts, at $199, $399 and $799 a month.

Alerts and rhythm

Because a mention can change overnight, we use scheduled reports and weekly review. Usage alerts fire at 85 percent of a quota. The Action Board lists prioritized work, and a Discovery agent suggests up to five evidence-backed actions each week.

What we cannot do

We cannot guarantee that a model mentions a company, and we cannot show every mention. Models change and answers vary. What we can show is trend, cause and next action.

Advice

Decide up front which prompts define "mentions that matter," freeze that panel, and let the content gap work flow from it. Real-time checks are for verifying a change, and daily trends are for judging it.

A practical note on alerts

We do not chase every overnight change. We watch trends over weeks and keep on-demand checks for verifying a specific fix. Where a quota matters, usage alerts at 85 percent keep us from running out of responses mid-month.
