Is there an AI search visibility platform that works for freelancers?
Yes. What freelancers and solo consultants should look for in an AI search visibility platform, and how we scope Promptwatch plans for one brand or a small client roster.
Freelancers and solo consultants ask us this regularly, and it is a fair question. Yes, there are platforms that work for a solo practice. What matters is matching the platform's structure to how you actually work.
Here is how we would think about it if we were advising someone starting out.
Three kinds of freelancer, three kinds of need
The solo marketer tracking one brand. Often your own business. You need something cheap and clear, and you can tolerate a lighter product. The risk is outgrowing it.
The consultant with a small roster. Three to ten clients. The deciding factor is structure: separate projects, a presentable report and pricing that does not scale linearly with every new client.
The SEO freelancer adding AI search. You already have clients and a reporting routine. You need a tool that explains results, because your clients will ask why.
Answers differ for each, so we will take them in turn.
Pricing and structure: what we would check first
Per-brand pricing is the trap. A plan that is reasonable for one brand turns expensive at five. Look for a plan with unlimited projects, and read what the limits are on responses and volumes rather than projects.
Promptwatch's agency self-serve plans work this way. Kick-off is $199 a month, Growth is $399 and Scale is $799. All include unlimited projects, unlimited pitch projects, unlimited prompts, 10 seats and every tracked model. The differences are volumes: Kick-off has 10,000 responses, 1,000 Agent Credits, 500,000 visitor events and 10 million crawler logs, while Scale has 65,000 responses and 100 million crawler logs. Crawler logs, visitor analytics, city and state tracking, custom reports and the Looker Studio connector come on every agency plan.
For one brand, the brand plans are a better fit. Explore is free with 10 prompts on ChatGPT only. Essential is $95 a month with 50 prompts and 6,000 responses. Professional is $245 and is where crawler logs begin, which matters if you want to diagnose access problems, and it is the plan we would pick for a single serious site. The 7-day free trial is on monthly billing for Essential, Professional and the lower agency plans.
The pitch feature freelancers underuse
Pitch projects are unlimited on agency plans. That means you can set up a prospective client's prompts, run them and show them a first view of their visibility before there is a contract. For a solo consultant, that is a better sales conversation than a deck of general statistics. It is also a good way to learn whether a prospect is worth chasing.
What to include in a client deliverable
Freelancers do not have an account manager to produce reports, so the tool has to do it. PDF reports can be generated from any dashboard and scheduled, with white-label branding on PDF exports and schedules. Custom reports and the Looker Studio connector are on Professional and every agency plan. Excel and CSV exports include a column picker. Agent Chat can build a PDF from live data if a client asks something unexpected.
The report we send has five parts: where the client stands against named competitors, what changed, why, what it did for the business, and what we do next. The "why" comes from citation analytics and crawler logs. The "what it did" comes from visitor analytics that attribute AI-referred visits and conversions.
What you will have to do yourself
Agency plans do not include AEO articles, the knowledge base or the automated Content Agent. If you want publishing handled for a client, that is a brand plan on Business at $579 a month, or your own writing. Slack briefings are also not available on white-label workspaces. A freelancer on an agency plan will be the writer, and the platform will be the analyst.
Other tools
There are cheaper tools, and some are decent. GetIntel, Ceyo, Orchly and Mentionable all publish entry prices lower than $100 a month. They suit a freelancer who needs a simple monitor. In our experience the gap shows up when a client asks why they are not being cited, because the cheaper tools publish less on crawler access and traffic attribution.
Caveats
No platform guarantees a recommendation. Start small: one client, 30 prompts, a monthly report. Trial the platform on a real client before you rebuild your whole practice around it. For our programs, Promptwatch is what we use, and the agency plans are the ones we would look at first for anyone with several clients.
