Top GEO tools for marketing agencies in 2026: what we run client programs on

Top GEO tools for marketing agencies in 2026, from an agency that runs client programs on them: what to check, what to avoid, and why we use Promptwatch.

If you run an agency, the list of GEO tools matters less than the way each one behaves at five or fifteen clients. We learned to evaluate them on operations first and features second. A dashboard that is lovely for one brand can turn into a billing and permissions headache when a team shares it.

This is how we think about it, and what we settled on.

The agency checklist

Projects per client. We want a clean separate space per client, with no cap that forces a plan upgrade every time we sign someone. Pitch audits for prospects should not count against that.

Seats. Account managers, analysts and sometimes the client's own team need access. Per-seat pricing punishes growth.

Reporting. Monthly PDFs, scheduled sends, and a connector so reporting can live in Looker Studio. Client-facing material should not look like a vendor screenshot.

Scope beyond a score. A monitoring-only report runs out of things to say after two months. Crawler logs, citation analytics and referred traffic keep the conversation useful.

Honesty. Models vary between runs. A tool that presents a single number as truth sets the agency up to over-promise.

What we run on

We run client programs on Promptwatch. The decisive factors for us:

  • Agency plans with unlimited projects. Self-serve agency plans are Kick-off at $199 a month, Growth at $399 and Scale at $799, and each includes unlimited projects, unlimited pitch projects, unlimited prompts and 10 seats.
  • Everything we need per client. All AI models, Agent Chat, country, state and city tracking, Ads Radar, visitor analytics, IP-verified crawler logs, site audits, content gap analysis, custom reports, the Looker Studio connector, and MCP and API access are in every agency plan.
  • Pitch projects. We can run an audit for a prospect and walk into the meeting with real data. Nothing in the pitch needs to be invented.
  • Evidence beyond mentions. Agent Analytics shows which AI bots fetched a client's pages and the crawl-to-citation path, and visitor analytics shows AI-referred traffic and conversions.

Limits worth stating up front, because they affect scope. Agency plans do not include AEO articles, the knowledge base, the 360 Insights dashboard, Shopping Insights or the automated Content Agent. If a client wants managed content production, we scope that separately. Scale has no trial, while Kick-off and Growth have a 7-day trial on monthly billing. Promptwatch lists white-label branding for PDF exports and a white-label workspace and client portal for agencies, but we confirm exactly what a given plan includes before promising a client anything.

How we structure a client engagement

  1. Pitch audit. A pitch project with a short prompt set shows the prospect where they stand against competitors.
  2. Prompt panel. Prompts are organized by topic and persona, and tagged by intent. Country-level tracking, plus state and city where the client is local.
  3. Baseline report. Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer, as a scheduled PDF.
  4. Access check. Crawler logs tell us whether bots can reach the site before we write anything.
  5. Action Board. The Discovery agent suggests up to five evidence-backed actions per weekly run, and we assign owners.
  6. Monthly review. Trends over weeks, not single-day changes.

Other tools we have seen and where they fit

Ahrefs and Semrush have AI add-ons, and they make sense for agencies that already use them for SEO. Their AI data sits next to rankings and backlinks, which is handy, though per-domain and per-prompt add-ons can add up across a client roster. AthenaHQ has an action-focused approach and credit-based pricing. Scrunch AI's Core plan covers one brand workspace, which makes it a per-client decision. Profound is aimed at enterprises and sells marketing agents. Ceyo positions itself as agency-first with white-label options.

Several are good products. We still would not run a client program on a tool that only monitors.

What we tell clients

We tell them that no tool guarantees a recommendation from any AI engine. What we can offer is measurement, diagnosis and a prioritized list of fixes. If you are choosing a platform for your agency, Promptwatch is where we would start, and the pitch projects alone make a trial worth running.
