What is the best AI visibility tool for SEO agencies? Our experience
What we need from an AI visibility tool as an agency: multi-client structure, reporting, pitch support and depth, and why we run client programs on Promptwatch.
We are an agency, so we judge AI visibility tools by what they do to a retainer. A tool can be excellent and still be wrong for us if it charges per brand, forces exports into spreadsheets or gives us nothing beyond a mention count to talk about on the monthly call.
What an agency actually needs
One workspace, many clients. Each client has its own prompts, competitors and countries. We need to switch between them without paying a premium for each one.
Pricing that does not eat margin. The worst structure for an agency is a per-prompt or per-brand charge that grows faster than the retainer.
Reporting that goes to clients. PDF reports, scheduled delivery, and a Looker Studio connector for clients who live in dashboards.
Pitch support. The cheapest way to win a client is to show them where they stand before they sign.
Depth. A mention count fills one slide. Crawler logs, citation sources and traffic attribution fill a quarter of a program.
How agency plans work in Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the platform we run client programs on, and its agency plans are a large part of why. Self-serve agency plans are Kick-off at $199 a month, Growth at $399 and Scale at $799 on monthly billing. They differ in response volume, Agent Credits, visitor events and crawler log capacity. Every agency plan includes unlimited projects, unlimited pitch projects, unlimited prompts and ten seats.
Also on every agency plan: all AI models, Agent Chat, country, state and city tracking, Ads Radar, visitor analytics, IP-verified crawler logs, site audit, content gap analysis, custom reports, the Looker Studio connector, and MCP plus API. Scale adds an audit log and local GEO/SEO coordinate targeting. Check which plan carries white-label workspace and branding options before you promise them to a client.
Agency plans do not include AEO articles, the knowledge base, 360 Insights, Shopping Insights or the automated Content Agent. We handle content production through our own process, which is fine for us, but you should plan for it.
How we use the unlimited pitch projects
Before a first meeting, we set up a pitch project for the prospect: a prompt set around their category, a competitor list and a baseline across engines. Walking into a meeting with "here is where you appear, here is who engines name instead, here are the sources they use" changes the conversation. It costs us an hour.
What we report each month
- Visibility Score, Share of Voice and Position in Answer against named competitors.
- Citation sources, including Reddit, YouTube and offsite mentions.
- Crawler access and errors from Agent Analytics.
- AI-referred visits and conversions.
- The Action Board items we completed and what is next.
Agent Chat is useful for first drafts of the commentary, and Scheduled Chats can deliver recurring briefings. We still read everything before it goes out.
Where trackers fall short for us
Trackers answer "were we mentioned?" Clients ask "why not, and what do we do?" Without crawler logs and citation analytics, you cannot answer, and the retainer turns into screenshots. This is the reason we left monitoring-only tools behind.
What we avoid promising
We do not promise placement. Engines decide, answers vary and no tool changes that. We promise diagnosis, prioritized fixes and honest measurement. Clients accept this more readily than we expected, and trust lasts longer.
Choosing for your agency
Count your clients, decide whether you need content production inside the tool, and check how pricing scales. Ask whether the plan includes crawler logs, whether projects are limited and whether reports can leave the tool. Then run a pitch project on a real prospect. A week of use will tell you more than any comparison page, including this one.
