AthenaHQ vs Otterly.AI: what we tell clients who shortlist both

AthenaHQ is a credit-metered action platform from $295. Otterly.AI is a cheap on-ramp from $29. Neither is how we run GEO retainers.

Some RFPs drop AthenaHQ and Otterly.AI into the same column because both track AI answers. They are not the same purchase. One is a credit-metered action platform aimed at teams that clear tasks. The other is an affordable monitoring on-ramp. On client calls we separate them early, and we are clear that neither is the stack we operate.

AthenaHQ in plain terms

AthenaHQ sells visibility plus an Action Center. Essential is free with $25 of credit and 300 credits across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. Starter is $295 a month for 3,600 credits (one credit equals one response), eleven models, unlimited topics, CSV export, integrations, on-page and off-page actions, and a content optimization agent. Starter is single country. API access and extra credits are paid add-ons with unpublished prices. Enterprise is custom and is where multi-region, multi-language, personas, ACE, SSO, audit logs and BI dashboards live. AthenaHQ calls Enterprise best for enterprises and agencies.

All plans include unlimited seats with RBAC, GA4 and Search Console, Shopify and Webflow, robots.txt and llms.txt management, and citation intelligence. G2 sits at 4.9/5 with a Spring 2026 High Performer badge in Answer Engine Optimization.

The catch for agencies is volume and geography. Fifty prompts across eleven models daily for thirty days is about 16,500 responses. Starter's 3,600 credits cover a fraction of that. Multi-country client work moves you to Enterprise.

Otterly.AI in plain terms

Otterly.AI is a standalone GEO tracker with a low entry price. Pricing starts from $29 a month. Setup is fast: connect a domain, accept prompts, and you have a dashboard across a base set of engines. The catalog lists four base engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot), with Gemini, Claude and AI Mode available as paid add-ons. Coverage spans 65-plus countries with unlimited seats. There is a GEO audit that grades pages on 25-plus on-page factors, a genuine free trial without a credit card, and a Semrush integration on the feature list.

The fine print matters on retainers. Monitoring data can lag up to seven days, so this is weekly-ish intelligence rather than a live feed. Lite's fifteen prompts is a test allowance, not a working program, and expansion packs are listed at $99 a month per 100 prompts. Sentiment analysis has been caught classifying neutral mentions as positive. There is no PDF export for board decks, so agencies often screenshot. Otterly.AI is monitoring only: no traffic or revenue attribution, no published crawler-log product, no content agents that publish to a CMS.

We do not put Otterly.AI at the top of a recommendation list for retainer work. It is a first-tool on-ramp, not an operating system.

Side-by-side for the buyer

AthenaHQ costs more up front and asks you to manage a credit pool. Otterly.AI costs less and asks you to live with freshness lag, prompt caps and add-on engines. AthenaHQ can queue schema and metadata work. Otterly.AI grades pages and tracks mentions. Neither documents AI crawler logs at the depth we need, nor visitor conversion attribution from AI referrers, nor CMS publishing with a review inbox.

That is the gap we fill with the platform we already run.

What we run instead

Promptwatch is the stack on our client programs. Agent Analytics shows whether ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot reached a page and where crawls failed. Citation analytics name the pages, Reddit threads and YouTube videos models cite. Visitor analytics connect AI-referred visits to conversions. Content Agents plan, write and publish to Webflow or Framer, with every draft sitting in a review inbox first.

Agency plans start at Kick-off for $199 a month, then Growth at $399 and Scale at $799, each with unlimited projects and prompts and ten seats. Brand plans are Explore free, Essential $95, Professional $245 and Business $579.

How we advise

If a client wants the cheapest credible dashboard to prove AI mentions exist and can accept weekly-ish refreshes, Otterly.AI can be a starter tool. We say that, and we say it is not how we run a GEO retainer.

If a client has an in-house team that will clear Action Center tasks weekly, accepts credit metering, and works in one country, AthenaHQ Starter can be a workstream. Multi-country agency scope means Enterprise pricing, not $295.

If the brief is to measure, diagnose, publish and prove results inside one workspace, we put Promptwatch on the SOW. That is what we already staff against.
