Digital marketing manager: strategies to boost your brand's visibility on AI platforms like ChatGPT

The strategies we give digital marketing managers who want more brand visibility on AI platforms like ChatGPT: baseline, access, content, sources and a weekly routine.

Digital marketing managers usually reach us with the same brief: leadership has noticed that a competitor shows up in ChatGPT and the brand does not, and someone has to fix it. The pressure is real, and so is the temptation to buy a tool and hope. These are the strategies we walk managers through, in the order that tends to pay off.

Start with a baseline you can repeat

Before changing anything, we write down the questions the brand's buyers ask. We pull them from sales calls, support tickets and search data, then group them: category questions with no brand named, comparison questions and brand questions. Thirty to fifty is plenty at the start.

Then we run them on a schedule. We use Promptwatch for this because it tracks daily by model, country and language, and reports Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Position in Answer and Sentiment. The Brand Book is a quiet but important feature: its analysis instructions decide what counts as a mention, so the numbers mean what the client thinks they mean. The free Explore tier covers 10 prompts on ChatGPT only, which is enough to start a conversation inside the company.

Remove technical blockers before writing anything

It is common for a manager to commission a content push and then discover the crawlers were blocked. So we check access first. That means robots.txt for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and the others, firewall and CDN rules, and whether the important content is in the page source. Blocking a training crawler and blocking a search crawler are different choices, and the brand should make them deliberately.

To confirm, we read logs. Promptwatch's Agent Analytics shows IP-verified AI crawler logs, with error tracking and failure explanations and a crawl-to-citation path per page. Crawler logs start on Professional at $245 a month, so we tell managers not to buy Essential for this job.

Write for the sub-questions

Engines run several searches behind one prompt. We look at those query fan-outs in Promptwatch, per model, and compare them with what the client's page actually answers. Often the page is strong on features and silent on pricing, alternatives or who it is for, which are exactly the sub-questions a buyer's prompt includes. Promptwatch's Answer Gap report lists the prompts where competitors are cited and the client is not, which becomes the content backlog.

We keep the writing plain and specific. We do not add invented statistics or testimonials, because the engines can repeat what the page says and the brand has to stand behind it.

Work the sources outside your site

Engines read Reddit, YouTube, review sites and third-party lists. Managers are often surprised that the fix for a gap is a PR or community task rather than an article. Promptwatch's citation analytics break sources into pages, domains, Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn, and show offsite mentions where the brand is named without a link. We give each type of source to whoever owns that channel.

Refresh before you create

New articles are slower to pay off than refreshing pages that already have authority. Content Refresh in Promptwatch gives diff-style suggestions for existing pages. For clients on Business, the Content Agent can plan, write and publish against gaps on a schedule. We run it with a review inbox and edit before anything goes live. Agency plans do not include it, so agencies should plan their own production process.

Report on something finance accepts

A visibility score does not convince a CFO. Traffic and conversions do. Visitor analytics in Promptwatch attribute AI-referred visits and conversions through a lightweight script, GTM template or WordPress plugin. Crisp reported that AI-referred traffic converted at 2x the rate of traditional channels, and TreeHouse reported AI search reaching about 25% of its organic conversions. Those are those companies' results, and managers should not present them as forecasts.

The weekly routine

  1. Open the Action Board. Its Discovery agent investigates weekly and suggests up to five evidence-backed actions.
  2. Pick two and assign them.
  3. Rerun the same prompt set and compare the period.
  4. Send a short report, scheduled as a PDF if the client prefers.

Budget

Essential is $95 a month, Professional $245 and Business $579. Agencies start at Kick-off, $199 a month, with unlimited projects and prompts.

What to promise internally

No one can guarantee ChatGPT will name your brand. Answers vary by model, country and phrasing. Promise a baseline, a repeatable measurement and a prioritized fix list. Promptwatch is where we run that process for clients.
