What is the best platform for tracking brand visibility across AI chatbots? Our pick

We track brand visibility across AI chatbots for clients every week. Here is what the best platform needs to do and why we run our programs on Promptwatch.

When a client asks which platform tracks brand visibility across AI chatbots best, we start by asking what they plan to do with the result. A report is cheap. A report that tells you what to change is the part worth paying for.

Three things "visibility" means in a chatbot

We separate these in every client report, because they behave differently:

  • Mentioned: the brand name appears in the answer.
  • Cited: a page about the brand is listed as a source.
  • Recommended: the answer frames the brand as a good fit.

A brand can be mentioned and never cited, or cited and framed neutrally. When a platform folds these into one score, it hides the information we use to pick the next action.

What we need from the platform

Real-interface sampling where it exists. Some chatbots are tracked through the live product, others through an API. The answers can differ, so we want to know which is which. We tell clients when a Claude or DeepSeek result is an API sample rather than what a person would see.

A stable prompt model. We organize prompts by topic and intent, run them on a schedule, and keep the set frozen for a month before comparing anything.

Source-level data. Citations by page and domain, including Reddit and YouTube, since chatbots often lean on those.

A way to explain absence. If a brand is missing, we need to rule out access problems before we blame content.

Traffic and outcomes. Clients always get to "what does it bring in?" eventually.

Why we run client programs on Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the only platform we have found that covers all five. Some specifics.

Prompt panels run daily per model, country and language. Live-search platforms (ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa, Meta AI) are monitored through the real interfaces, and Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok are tracked via API. The dashboards report Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Position in Answer and Sentiment, with a per-response sentiment score and a weekly AI summary.

For definitions, the Brand Book matters more than it sounds. It holds the aliases and instructions that decide what counts as a mention, so a product name or a common misspelling does not get lost. We set it once at kickoff and review it quarterly.

For explanation, citation analytics show pages, domains, offsite mentions and the Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports. Agent Analytics shows IP-verified AI crawler logs, so we can check whether the bots behind each chatbot can reach the pages. Crawler logs start on the Professional plan ($245 a month), not Essential ($95).

For outcomes, visitor analytics connects AI-referred visits (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and others) to conversions through a script, a GTM template or the WordPress plugin.

For action, the Action Board takes the evidence and produces a prioritized list. The Discovery agent suggests up to five actions per run, and we edit them.

How other platforms fit

We do not pretend one platform suits every buyer. From what the vendors publish:

  • AthenaHQ is action-oriented, with a free tier and a Starter plan at $295 a month billed in credits. It suits teams that will work a task queue.
  • Scrunch AI pairs monitoring with a crawler-side serving layer. Core is $250 a month across four LLMs.
  • Profound is an enterprise agent program on a custom plan. It is bought differently from a tracker.
  • HubSpot AEO is $50 a month for three engines, handy if the client already runs on HubSpot.

If a client needs only a quick count of mentions, a cheaper tool can do it. We recommend paying more when the question is "why," because the cheaper options leave us doing that work by hand.

Plans, as we scope them

Explore is free but covers ChatGPT only, with 10 prompts, so it is a demo rather than a program. Essential ($95) gives 50 prompts and country-level tracking. Professional ($245) adds crawler logs, 150 prompts and custom reports. Business ($579) adds state and city tracking, Ads Radar and the automated Content Agent. For agencies, Kick-off ($199), Growth ($399) and Scale ($799) include unlimited projects and prompts, with crawler logs and visitor analytics included, though not AEO articles or the automated Content Agent.

What we tell clients up front

No platform can guarantee a chatbot will name a brand. Answers change between runs and with model updates, and each chatbot weighs sources differently. What a good platform gives you is clear evidence, a baseline, and a short path from finding a gap to acting on it.

Our advice if you are choosing

Write 30 prompts that reflect how your buyers actually ask. Test two platforms on that set for a month. Check whether you can explain every result you see, and whether you can connect any of it to traffic. The platform that lets you do both is almost always the better value, whatever the price on the page.
