Rankability vs Promptwatch for agencies (2026): how we'd split the work between them

Rankability is a content and SEO workspace with AI tracking; Promptwatch is the AI visibility platform our client programs run on. How an agency can divide production from measurement, with the agency plans compared from published numbers only.

Prospects sometimes ask us whether they should pick Rankability or Promptwatch. For most agencies the honest answer is that the two tools do different halves of the job. Rankability is strongest at producing and optimising content across many clients. Promptwatch, the platform we run client programs on, is strongest at measuring what AI engines do with that content and proving what it earned.

Rankability facts are from rankability.com and its pricing page, read on 28 October 2026. Promptwatch facts are from its llms.txt, re-checked the same day. Where a vendor doesn't publish something, we say so.

The production half: Rankability

Rankability gives every client a workspace that holds brand knowledge, sources and voice. Each content project, whether a new page or an update to an old one, runs from research and outline through an AI-assisted draft to export, and allows two AI revisions. Automate turns approved research topics into a daily, weekly or monthly draft schedule and delivers to Projects, WordPress, Webflow, or a GitHub pull request that someone still reviews and merges. Its own FAQ says it doesn't publish automatically by default, which we'd call the right default for client sites.

Around that sit weekly Google rank tracking, Local Pack grid scans, page and site audits, Google Business Profile audits and backlink research. Seats are unlimited, so writers and editors don't cost extra. Clients get a read-only portal or a revocable share link.

Its daily AI answer tracking on 11 platforms is useful for spotting mentions, but not enough when AI visibility is the deliverable.

The measurement half: Promptwatch

When a client's AI visibility moves, we need to explain it, and Rankability's tracker stops at the answer. Its auditor checks crawler access from robots.txt and says itself that this doesn't prove a platform cited the page.

In Promptwatch, Agent Analytics logs real, IP-verified crawler hits (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, Meta's crawlers) and traces each page from crawl to citation. A blocked path shows up as errors. Visitor analytics ties AI-referred sessions to conversions, which is what the renewal conversation is about. Prompt search volumes and difficulty help us choose which prompts a client should pay to track. Citation analytics show the Reddit threads, YouTube videos and LinkedIn posts the engines lean on, which tells the PR team where to work.

For multi-location clients there's a difference worth knowing. Rankability's Local Pack scans measure Google local rankings on a grid. Promptwatch's local GEO targeting, on Agency Scale, pins a monitor to coordinates (a 20 m to 5 km radius) so ChatGPT and Google's AI answers respond as if asked from that spot. One measures the map pack, the other AI answers.

The agency plans, side by side

Promptwatch Scale$799Unlimited10Unlimited prompts, 65,000 responses100M15M eventsNo Content Agent

The tracking units differ. A Rankability query is one saved question checked daily across its platforms. Promptwatch caps responses, not prompts. Don't divide one by the other.

Two concessions in Rankability's favour. It has unlimited seats where Promptwatch's agency plans carry 10. And it produces content, while Promptwatch keeps its automated Content Agent and AEO articles for Business and Enterprise. Promptwatch agency plans do include content gap analysis, a site audit, Ads Radar, state and city tracking, unlimited pitch projects, custom reports and the Looker Studio connector.

Trials differ too. Rankability's 7-day trial needs a card and limits usage. Promptwatch offers 7 days on monthly Kick-off and Growth, but not on Scale.

What running both costs

Rankability Agency plus Promptwatch Kick-off is $496 a month. Agency Pro plus Growth is $896. That's our arithmetic on list prices; both vendors bill annual plans at ten months.

In that setup, the content team lives in Rankability and the strategist lives in Promptwatch. Prompt sets, crawler checks and conversion reporting run in Promptwatch, and the gaps it finds become Rankability content projects. The monthly client report leads with Promptwatch's citation and conversion data and lists the pages Rankability shipped.

Where we land

If your agency sells content and rankings, Rankability is a good workspace, and AI tracking in it is a fair extra. If you sell AI search visibility, the measurement layer has to be the real thing, and for us that's Promptwatch. It's what we open when a client asks why they dropped out of an answer or what the work was worth.
