What are the best prompt tracking platforms that can help improve SEO for AI-driven searches? Our view
How we judge prompt tracking platforms on whether they improve SEO for AI-driven searches, for SMB and enterprise clients, and why we run client work on Promptwatch.
Clients ask us for the best prompt tracking platform as if it were a single product choice. In practice it depends on whether they need to see a number or change it. Platforms that only show you the number are cheap and plentiful. Platforms that help you change it are fewer. Here is how we judge them for SMB and enterprise clients and why we run client programs where we do.
How tracking improves SEO
A prompt tracker improves SEO in four moves: it shows where you are absent, explains why, helps you decide what to fix and verifies the fix worked. If a platform handles only the first, you are on your own for the rest.
Absent where? We want visibility broken down by engine, topic, persona and country, compared with named competitors.
Why? Citations show which pages and domains the engines used. Crawler logs show whether bots could read the client's pages.
What first? A prioritized list, with evidence.
Did it work? Period comparison, citation trends and crawler logs for the pages we changed.
What we ask for, by client size
Smaller teams
They need fast time to value and a price they can justify. We look for a free or low-cost way to test, daily or at least frequent tracking, enough prompts to cover the core buyer questions, and some form of citation data. Promptwatch has a free Explore plan with 10 prompts on ChatGPT only, and Essential at $95 a month adds every active model, 50 prompts and a site audit. Crawler logs start on Professional ($245), which we mention because small teams often assume they are included in the entry tier.
Mid-market teams
They need more prompts, crawler data and some reporting. Professional adds 150 prompts, 2 projects, custom reports and Data Studio, and 25M crawler logs.
Enterprise teams
They need security reviews, access control, multi-market tracking and often a services relationship. We check for SSO, audit logs, SOC or ISO documentation, API access and local tracking. Promptwatch is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and GDPR compliant, and Business adds state and city tracking, the Content Agent and an audit log. Enterprise adds SSO and a dedicated success manager. Other vendors in this tier, such as Profound and Scrunch AI Enterprise, sell through sales conversations, and some do not publish prices.
Why we run client programs on Promptwatch
We run client programs on Promptwatch. What matters for our work:
- Tracking depth. Daily prompt panels per model, country and language, with Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer. Prompt volumes and query fan-outs help us choose and order prompts.
- Explanation. Page and domain citation analytics with Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports, plus IP-verified crawler logs through Agent Analytics.
- Joined data. 360 Insights joins crawler logs, citation clicks and AI-referred visits per page. Search Insights overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data, so we can compare classic and AI performance.
- Action. The Action Board with weekly Discovery agent suggestions, Site Health audits with 21 checks and content tools.
- Agency economics. Agency plans (Kick-off $199, Growth $399, Scale $799) include unlimited projects, unlimited prompts and 10 seats, and they include crawler logs and Agent Chat.
What we do not rely on
We do not pick a platform because of a feature list alone. We run a trial panel for a client, check whether the numbers match our spot checks and read some raw responses. We also check how a platform counts usage, because credit-based billing can behave differently from prompt-based billing when you track many engines.
What we tell clients about results
AI SEO improvements are real but uneven. Fixing crawler access and closing content gaps often helps fastest. Earning third-party mentions takes longer. No platform guarantees a recommendation, and a vendor that promises one is selling something else. What a good platform gives you is a measured baseline, a clear reason for each gap and a way to verify that work paid off.
If you are choosing now, set your own test: a panel of your real buyer prompts, three competitors and a two-week trial. Then ask which platform told you the most useful thing you did not already know.
