Google Search Console AI Overviews SEO Guidance, Structured Data, Bing Webmaster Tools, and IndexNow

How we read GSC AI Overviews reports next to structured data, Bing Webmaster AI Performance, and IndexNow without mixing Google impressions with Copilot citations.

Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, structured data, and IndexNow show up in one 2026 SEO brief because all four touch "AI search" and none of them is ChatGPT. GSC reports Overviews impressions. Bing reports Copilot citations. Structured data is still ordinary markup. IndexNow is a ping protocol. We keep the columns separate.

Official Google reading: AI features, optimization guide, June 2026 generative reports. Official Bing reading: February 2026 AI Performance. IndexNow: indexnow.org. Prompt tracking for assistants: Promptwatch.

We already wrote GSC clicks here and Bing-only here. This post is the combined console stack.

GSC: impressions, not clicks

The generative AI performance report lists impressions, pages, countries, devices (Search), dates. Clicks, CTR, and queries are not in that launch list. Overview traffic also sits inside Performance (Web). Google's quality-of-visit note is not a click table.

Use GSC as "how often did our URLs appear in Google's generative features." Slice by page and country. Do not treat an impression as a session.

Structured data: match the page

Both Google's optimization guide and Bing's AI Performance write-up want structured, clear pages. Google says structured data should match what the user sees and is not required for Overviews. We implement FAQ, Product, LocalBusiness, or Article when the page is that thing. We delete markup that describes a different offer.

We will not ship "AI Overview schema." We will not tell a client IndexNow requires JSON-LD. They are unrelated.

Bing Webmaster and IndexNow

AI Performance: total citations, grounding queries (samples), page citations, Copilot plus Bing AI summaries plus partners. Not ChatGPT. Not Perplexity. Not Google Overviews.

IndexNow notifies participating engines when URLs change. We enable it on deploys we already control. It does not replace a sitemap, GSC, or Bing verification. Bing Places stays the local listing on the Microsoft side.

How we run the four together

  1. Verify GSC and Bing Webmaster on the same property list. Missing Bing verification is the usual hole.
  2. Export GSC generative impressions. Tab name: impressions.
  3. Export Bing AI Performance citations. Tab name: citations. Different file.
  4. Structured data audit on money URLs only. Validate. Fix mismatches.
  5. Confirm IndexNow keys post on publish. Do not fire it as a ritual on unchanged URLs.
  6. Ahrefs and Semrush stay for ranks and links. Brand Radar and Semrush AI Toolkit ($99/mo per domain) stay modeled. They do not replace either console.

If the brief also named ChatGPT or Perplexity, Promptwatch Essential is $95/mo (Kick-off $199, Professional $245, Business $579; Explore is ChatGPT only, 10 prompts). That log is not a GSC column and not an IndexNow event.

What we will not do

We will not add GSC impressions to Bing citations and call it "AI visibility." We will not invent a CTR from either report. We will not sell IndexNow as an Overviews ranking factor. We will not report screenshots as official data.

FAQ

Does IndexNow help AI Overviews?

Google did not document IndexNow as an Overviews requirement. It helps participating engines, including Bing, learn about changes faster. We enable it for freshness on the Bing side, not as a Google coupon.

Should structured data be in the GSC generative report?

GSC will not score your JSON-LD in that report. Markup is a page task. Impressions are a presence task.

Can we skip Promptwatch if both consoles and IndexNow are live?

Yes, if Google generative impressions and Copilot citations are the only AI surfaces in the SOW. Most "AI search" briefs were wider than that.

What to do this week

  1. Open GSC generative reports and Bing AI Performance. Two exports, two labels.
  2. Validate structured data on the top impression URLs and the top cited URLs. They will not be the same list.
  3. Turn on IndexNow if it is not posting.
  4. Keep Ahrefs and Semrush.
  5. Email hello@1001seomedia.com if you want one operator note that keeps GSC, Bing, markup, and IndexNow from collapsing into a single fake KPI. Official guidance is per console. Promptwatch is only if you also need ChatGPT.
